The fifth chapter described a dear devotee. The Pandavas are
very dear to Krsna but in the sixth chapter we will see the
dearest devotee. Narada Muni became overwhelmed with love
.....reading until....unable to play his vina. There is a state
called vivarsha and it is an ecstasy when the senses become numb,
the body becomes numb then one is unable to do anything. Like
Narada Muni he did not have control over his body anymore. Just
by hearing the most elevated position of Uddhava, he became so
moved that he lost control over himself and he actually
experienced the state called vivarsha. When he was walking
.....reading until ..... and dancing. Just be hearing of
Uddhava, Narada Muni was in such a state. When he went to
Krsna's inner chamber then he found that some persons were
sitting around and they all seemed to be in concern and very much
in anxiety. It will be explained that even though it was so
late, Krsna had not risen from His bed. Uddhava was sitting in
the room ....reading until ....Heart will be pacified. (points
read out)

reading until Uddhava desired to become a creeper in Vrndavana.
Krsna got the news that the gopis and all the other residents of
Vrndavana were suffering very much due to their separation from
Him so Krsna decided to send Uddhava because Krsna Himself could
not go and it will also be explained why Krsna didn't go Himself
to Vrndavana. In Brhat Bhagavatamrta that will be explained.
Krsna sent Uddhava and Uddhava went to Vrndavana and He first met
with nanda Maharaj and mother Yasoda. Nanda Maharaj received him
very respectfully but when the gopis saw that golden chariot in
Vrndavana they became very afraid. They became surprised
wondering why this kind of chariot was there because it was this
kind of chariot that came and took Krsna away, Akrura came and
took Krsna away. Some of the gopis commented that maybe Kamsa's
friends, relatives wanted to ....I will explain it tomorrow.
Then the gopis thought they were very surprised and at one point
they thought that Krsna had come back to Vrndavana. Then they
saw Uddhava from a distance who looked like Krsna Uddhava's
bodily complexion, due to tomiata tomai means him and moi means
absorbed in thought. He was so absorbed in Krsna's thought he
c=became like Krsna. His bodily complexion although it was
golden, he was so absorbed in thought of Krsna, he became like
Krsna, blackish. That also happened to Narottama Das Thakura.
His complexion was blackish but he became golden in thinking of
Caitanya Mahaprabhu, in being absorbed in Caitanya Mahaprabhu's
love. Draupadi's complexion is like Krsna's because she is so
absorbed in Krsna consciousness. Uddhava's complexion is like
Krsna's and Uddhava wears all of Krsna's remnants, Krsna prasad
so his dress was also like Krsna. So from a distance when the
gopis saw Krsna they thought that Krsna had come back and Uddhava
actually carried a letter from Krsna but that letter could not
pacify the gopis. They went into a very very ecstatic mood due
to their intense separation from Krsna and from that Uddhava
could understand that these gopis are experiencing such intense
love for Krsna that no one in this world has ever experienced
such love. He himself never came anywhere near that kind of
attachment. This is how Uddhava recognized the very verynelevated position of the gopis. And there is the very famous
chapter of Brahma Gita. Radharani saw bumble bee and she
mistook the bumble bee to be Krsna and she started to speak to
the bumble bee as if it was Krsna. Then sometimes she was
thinking that the bumble bee was actually Krsna's messenger. In
this way she was experiencing loss of memory and a kind of
madness which known as uddkuna. She started behaving like a mad
woman. Uddhava also saw when he went to Vrndavana that in the
kitchen the oven there were spider webs in the oven because for
so many days, actually ever since Krsna left the residents of
Vrndavana didn't eat. They did not light the fire to cook
anything and the ovens had spider webs. In this was Uddhava
could recognize the most elevated position of the residents of
Vrndavana and of all the gopis the position of Radharani.
Uddhava felt so humbled after that experience of meeting the
gopis and seeing their love for Krsna, that he simply wanted to
have the dust from their lotus feet. (verse quoted) Uddhava
said all I want is simply the dust from the lotus feet of these
gopis and in order to get this dust I just want to become a blade
of grass, or a shrub or a creeper in Vrndavana because these
gopis have given up the civilized way, the Vedic consideration of
moral life. They have rejected everything, they did not mind as
being branded as being unchaste. They were even addressed
sometimes as prostitutes because the married women who gives up
her husband and runs after some married man is a prostitute. The
gopis were even abused in that fashion. Actually for a woman her
life of morality, her chastity is her crowning glory and when a
woman is willing to sacrifice that, that is considered to be the
greatest sacrifice. The gopis did not mind in accepting the
blame themselves but for whom? FOr Krsna. So this is considered
to be the greatest sacrifice. Another consideration is that a
woman is naturally attached to her husband but the gopis of
Vrndavana rejected their husbands. A mother is naturally
attached to her child and the gopis of Vrndavana have rejected
their children. As soon as the gopis heard Krsna's flute some
gopis were even breast feeding their children, and they dropped
the children and ran to Krsna. The reputation of a woman is a
most precious possession and they did not care about that
reputation for the sake of Krsna. That is why Uddhava is saying
giving up this civilized, moral way of life. Why? FOr the sake
of the lotus feet of Mukunda, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
He just desired to get the dust from their lotus feet and in
order to get that he desired to be born as a creeper, bush or a
tree in Vrndavana. Sanatan Goswami raises the question why
Uddhava wanted to become a blade of grass, or a shrub or creeper
in Vrndavana because if you want to have the dust from the lotus
feet it would be better if he took his birth, or if he wanted to
get the dust from their lotus feet he should become a blade of
grass on the street because that is how the gopis will go, by the
street. But Uddhava' s reply was not, when the gopis hear
Krsna's flute, they loose their sense of direction, they cannot
figure out where is the road and where is the forest and the
chances are better that he will get the dust of their feet if he
is in the forest instead of the road because they will become so
mad in their ecstasy in their love of Krsna that they will run
through the bushes and forest. He will get the dust from thenfeet of the gopis ...reading until ....who also have similar
desires. The trees in Vrndavana are not ordinary living
entities. They are not trees. In Krsna Book Srila Prabhupada
explained that these trees in Vrndavana are actually great sages
and they have been born now in Vrndavana (Balarama is telling
Krsna in the chapter where Denaksura was killed). He said they
are not ordinary trees but are great devotees of Krsna and
Uddhava is saying that I want to be born in Vrndavana as a
creeper because the other creepers will sway in the wind and fall
on my body and in that way I can get his association and we will
exchange our feelings. If someone says...reading until....then
He would become afflicted with His love for the gopis. ALthough
Krsna is in Dwarka, He misses Vrndavana very very much. That's
why Uddhava is afraid to speak much about the gopis because he
was afraid that if He heard about the gopis Krsna would become
very much afflicted. And the queens often express that Krsna is
always absorbed in the though of Vrndavana because when Krsna is
awake He seems to be very absentminded. It seems that although
His body is in Dwarka, His heart is somewhere else and where is
Krsna's heart. Vrndavana. And at night when Krsna sleeps He
calls out by the names of the cows, calves, cowherd boys, Nanda
Maharaj and Mother Yasoda and the gopis. In His sleep He talks
so the queens could understand that Krsna at night dreams about
Vrndavana so Krsna is always in Vrndavana. Mother Rohini say
....reading until....separation from Krsna. Mother Rohini she
was in Vrndavana before but now she is in Dwarka so she knew how
the gopis loved Krsna and how the gopis are suffering in
separation of Krsna. Whenever she thought of them and reminded
of the state of the gopis due to their separation from Krsna, she
felt a very deep agony within her heart so she requested Uddhava
please do not remind me of this, of those who are suffering so
much in separation from Krsna. And she continued Yasoda's cry
made stone shed tears and thunderbolts split. Due to separation
of Krsna, the way Yasoda was crying that made stones melt and
thunderbolts split. It was a heart rendering cry and Rohini
remembered that. Rohini and Yasoda were very close. They took
care of Krsna and Balarama every day so Mother Yasoda and Mother
Rohini were very very close, very good friends. No one could
make out...reading until...Radharani was alive or dead. Due to
separation from Krsna, Radharani's condition was as such that it
was difficult whether she was still alive or dead. This is how
the residents of Vrndavana love Krsna and the purpose of
practicing Krsna consciousness is actually to develop that love.
We are chanting 16 rounds and going through the chores of
performing devotional service every day and the purpose is to
simply develop that love and devotees must make a sincere and
conscious effort to develop that love. We should not think that
if we just chant our rounds every day and render our service then
someday we will develop our love for Krsna automatically. No it
wont happen like that. Bhaktivinoda Thakura said (sloka quoted)
one may chant sankirtana, the holy name of Krsna in sankirtana
for millions of lifetimes still he wont develop love for Krsna.
So love for Krsna is actually a state of consciousness so we have
to try to develop that consciousness. Actually we cannot receive
love but we can endeavour but upon seeing our sincere endeavour,
when Bhakti Devi becomes pleased, then she may bestow that lovenupon us. WHen Srimati Radharani sees that then she may bestow
that love on us but we cannot artificially develop that love.
But it is beneficial to hear or feel the love of the gopis of
Vrndavana. That is why in order to develop that loving
relationship with Krsna there is only one way and that is to
render devotional service, to become connected to some resident
of Vrndavana. We have to develop their mood, we have to become
absorbed in their mood and then understanding their mood we can
gradually develop our love for Krsna. Therefore it is very
important that we dwell upon the feelings of the residents of
Vrndavana. How must Mother Yasoda have felt after Krsna left
Vrndavana. WE have seen in Krsna Book how Mother Yasoda felt
when she couldn't see Krsna for just a few second. When
Trnavartasura came and took Krsna away and covered the whole of
Vrndavana with a dust storm and everyone's eyes then Mother
Yasoda not being able to see Krsna started to cry just like a cow
starts to cry when her calf dies. What to speak of when she
could not see Krsna for such a long time. When Krsna would go to
the forest to send the cows Mother Yasoda and Nanda Maharaj would
follow Krsna and at a certain point Krsna would say 'Please don't
come any further, please go back' and Mother yasoda would become
stupefied. She could not go back and she would just stand there
with tears flowing down her eyes and milk flowing from her
breasts

change of tape

mingle and her clothes her sari became soaked with tears. This
is how affectionate, this is how much affection they have for
Krsna. She would just stand there and as long as she could see
Krsna she would just stand there and from time to time Krsna
would look back and wave and tell them 'Go Back!. This is how
Krsna submerged the devotees of Vrndavana in an ocean of ecstasy
and that ecstasy is not only the ecstasy of joy, it is the
ecstasy of agony as well. Both are ecstatic. Union is ecstatic
and separation is ecstatic. In the spiritual sky everything is
ecstatic. Their tears is ecstatic and lust is ecstatic. In the
material world everything is painful, everything is miserable.
Here union is miserable and separation is also miserable. One
may think that union is less miserable, OK that's what they
happiness is but ultimately union also becomes miserable. Romeo
and Juliet fell in , love with each other and then (this is
another Romeo and Juliet I am talking about) and in due course of
time they got married and within a very short time the neighbors
could hear them screaming and yelling at each other and that is
the real story of Romeo and Juliet. But in the spiritual sky
everything is ecstatic and here we can see how Mother Rohini is
describing the condition of Mother yasoda. That they way she was
crying due to her separation from Krsna that stones melted
hearing that cry and thunderbolts split. When Krsna returned
from the ashram of ...reading until....and flattery. So Mother
Rohini took it as that Krsna is not at all concerned about the
residents of Vrndavana, Krsna has completely forgotten because
when He returned from the ashram of Sandipani Muni Rohini devi
came to mathura at that time because vasudev was released and
Rohini was the queen of Vasudeva so Vasudev was brought tonMathura after Kamsa's death and Rohini saw the condition of
Mother Yasoda and other gopis in Vrndavana so she started to tell
Krsna, 'Krsna this is the condition of the gopis due to your
separation so you please go back to Vrndavana to pacify them'.
But Krsna didn't go but instead He sent Uddhava and she took it
as Uddhava is a diplomat so Krsna sent a diplomat to pacify them
with his flattery and diplomacy. Then she continued to tell
Uddhava You sang the glory of your Lord's mercy ...reading
until....does not need any description. She was angry because
her love for the residents of Vrndavana was so great and when she
saw the nonchalant attitude of Krsna then she started to chastise
Krsna in this way. Kamsa's mother who was old...and unchaste.
She was very chaste basically but one demon became attracted to
her due to her beauty when she was young, Ugrasena's wife
Padmavati, and a demon came and in disguise when Ugrasena was
away this demon appeared to Padmavati as Ugrasena and molested
her and as a result of that Kamsa was born so that is why she is
called unchaste here. She said 'alas how painful it is...reading
until....what can He do now. Padmavati was actually taking
Krsna's side. She was telling how badly the residents of
Vrndavana were treating Krsna. He had to be in the house of
Nanda Maharaj and what they did, when he was a little boy they
sent him to the forest to tend the cows and they didn't even give
Him a pair of shoes and sometimes when Krsna stole some butter or
milk Mother Yasoda tied Him up with a rope. These are all
different sides. Mother Rohini completely ignored
Padmavati....reading until.....pulls the end of my sari. As I
said Krsna sometimes at night dreams about Vrndavana and that's
why He behaves like this. Sometimes he calls out to Mother
yasoda and says 'Mother give me some butter' and sometimes He
addressed Rukmini as Radha, Lalita or Chandravali. Rukmini is
Chandravali and Radha is Satyabhama in Dwarka pastimes.
Sometimes he soaks the earth with His tears.....reading
until....He is still lying in His bed. Krsna did not get up that
morning till then because Krsna was actually feeling intense
separation from the residents of Vrndavana. Satyabhama gets into
a competition because she cannot take a second position because
naturally her position is first so she cant take the second
position but somehow or rather in Dwarka Rukmini is more
prominent. In Vrndavana Radha is more prominent of the gopis but
of the queens Rukmini is the most prominent because Vrndavana is
the region of emotion and Dwarka which is the capital is the
region of intelligence so Radharani is emotion and Chandravali is
intelligence. So intelligence became prominent in Dwarka so
Rukmini's position is prominent so Rukmini is up front and Krsna
also deals with Rukmini in a very special way which causes
Satyabhama to become envious. Her she could not take a second
place. Rukmini said Krsna does that at night so Satyabhama also
said Not only in His sleep....reading until.....and started to
cry loudly. Krsna was lying on His bed so He heard all these
conversations going on and He couldn't tolerate anymore so He
just got out of His bed and started crying loudly. With a
faltering voice He started.....reading until.....and started to
cry. Thus ends the sixth chapter.

QUESTIONS:n܌
Question: We find that Raghunatha Goswami would not eat from a
leaf that came from Chandravali's garden so he was not very
appreciative of Chandravali. I was just reading a song of
Bhaktivinoda Thakura and he was expressing the same mood. What
should our attitude be?

ANswer: The same. Because we a Rupanuga, Rupa, Ragunatha etc.
they are our preceptors and why can't we stand even to hear the
name of Chandravali and that's in our imperfected stage, that's
how we feel. BEcause our ultimate objective is to unite
Radharani with Krsna. WE want to see Radha and Krsna together
all the time but Chandravali tries to take Krsna away and (sloka
quoted) that's what Bhaktivinoda Thakura wrote. He is saying I
cant the name of Chandravali because she wants to take
Radharani's Krsna away from her. So because we are Radharani's
followers we cant stand the effort of Chandravali to take Krsna
away from Radharani.

Question: We also saw in the sixth chapter in the second part
when Akrura comes then the gopis and all the inhabitants of
Vrndavana they become very very angry with Akrura to say the
least. They despise him. I've seen that Prabhupada speaks of
Akrura as a devotee and he even gave one disciple the name of
Akrura. I am wondering about that also.

Answer:

Question: WHat about the worship of RukminiDwarkadish in the
temple. IS she Laxmi or is she Chandravali?

Answer: Worship of the deities in the temple is on the mood
LaxmiNarayana and because Rukmini is Mahalaxmi she is ultimately
Radharani. Even Chandravali is Radharani. The original hladnini
potency, the personification of hladini potency is Srimati
Radharani so all the gopis included Chandravali is Srimati
Radharani but in order to increase the mellow increase the
pastimes for Krsna they are playing specific roles. But when we
get so involved in these roles in the mood of Radharani's
followers we cant stand Chandravali.

Question: Chandravali's position is actually to increase the
mellows of Radharani and Krsna's pastimes because there is some
competition, because there is some chance that Radharani may lose
Krsna. Is that how she fits into the picture?

Answer: Yes, it is to enhance the joy of union that Chandravali
plays that role. In the spiritual sky all these varieties is
meant for enhancing the loving relationship between Radharani and
Krsna. In love envy plays a very important role so Chandravali
actually causes envy in Radharani and her followers but that envy
is simply meant to enhance their love.

Question: WE are always talking about different devotees playing
different roles but is there any time they stop playing roles
and their involvement......?n܌
Answer: Yes, for instance when they go back to Goloka their role
is not exactly the same as they play in Gokula Vrndavana. Rupa
Goswami actually explained that in Goloka Vrndavana Radha Krsna
are like husband and wife and he even describes Jiva Goswami even
described how Radha and Krsna got married. In Goloka Vrndavana
their role is quite different.

QUestion: The descriptions in Lalita Madhava in relationship to
Rukmini and Satyabhama, are they true or do we take that as part
of the drama.

Answer: The scriptures are the truth and nothing but the truth.

Question: At the end Rupa Goswami says it is a drama taking
place between Radha and Krsna so I was just wondering whether
aspects of it are not real details.

Answer: ANything that comes from Rupa Goswami he is not writing
a fiction, he is not writing a drama.

Question: In the Bharat Muni's ? shastra there is mention that
certain aspects of a drama can be imaginary.

Answer: Yes. Bharat Muni may have said that but a pure devotee
like Rupa Goswami will not write something fiction. Whatever he
writes about Krsna we have to understand that it is the truth and
he is seeing that in his heart. Those pastimes are actually
taking place in his heart otherwise he wouldn't write.

Question: It seems very real the experience of Krsna in
separation of the gopis. How do you see that when Krsna was not
meant to have left Vrndavana?

Answer: Yes Krsna can go to Dwarka and mathura and at the same
time not leave Vrndavana. If Krsna can expand Himself into the
heart of every living entity cant he remain in Vrndavana and at
the same time be in other places. With His inconceivable
potencies He can do anything. But the understanding is that the
original Krsna never leaves Vrndavana. The Vraja? Krsna never
leaves Vrndavana.

Question: But He has left all the gopis.

Answer: That is again Yogamaya, He is covered by yogamaya. They
are not seeing Him even though He is there and sometimes when He
wants He appears in front of them but they are in such a
bewildered state due to their intense love for Krsna that they
cannot figure out whether they are dreaming or seeing the real
Krsna. WHen they dream of Krsna they think it is real and when
they see the real Krsna, they think that is not real.
